A NEW song is shining a spotlight on the village of Yetholm.
Down in Yetholm is part of AON, the debut album by Scottish songwriter David Sheret, who performs under the name Finn Moray.
The project carries a charitable purpose, with Mr Sheret pledging that 50 per cent of net profits from the album will be donated to community, culture, and wellbeing groups connected to each location featured in the songs.
He said: "AON is my way of trying to live more like that, turning my writing into something that genuinely helps other people."
The album takes inspiration from places across Scotland, including Yetholm in the Borders.
Down in Yetholm is a deeply personal track for Mr Sheret, as he said: "There is a place tucked into the borderland, a quiet fold of land where Scotland and England lean gently into one another.
"That place is Yetholm. Down in Yetholm is not just a memory, it is a feeling.
"A moment in time made permanent by father and son love, rural land and something I cannot quite name. I wrote it for the people who have passed through, my dad included, and for the ones who still carry the road in their bones."
The project begins with a free-to-download song, The Tree on the Sun.
Originally written as a poem, Mr Sheret read it at his father's funeral in May, saying: "Life is short. My dad lived happy and present, and he loved giving back."
The poem's transformation into a song became the foundation of the wider album project.
AON itself is structured in two parts: AON: The Call, which presents Mr Sheret’s original arrangements, and AON: The Gathering, a planned follow-up inviting emerging artists to reinterpret the songs in their own style.
Mr Sheret is now inviting organisations in Yetholm and across the Borders to get involved.
He hopes to connect with groups that contribute to the community and could benefit from support.
The Tree on the Sun, the free-to-download song that began the project, and the songs from AON: The Call, including Down In Yetholm, will be available on the Finn Moray website.
